Just like humans, cats need exercise to keep fit and healthy. Between catnaps, kittens are always on the go. Regular exercise is very important, as it can help prevent obesity and associated health risks. Exercise also helps prevent undesirable behaviours by entertaining your kitten and providing physical or intellectual stimulation. Aim for at least 20 minutes of interactive play with your kitten each day. This is sure to keep her muscles toned and joints flexible. It's also a great way to bond.
Peak activity time for kittens and cats occurs in the early morning and in the evening. In fact, playing with your kitten before you go to bed will help ensure that she will be ready to sleep when you are.
Kittens also love to play with other kittens, so when getting your kitten, you might want to consider getting two. They will keep each other active when you can't and you will provide a safe haven to one more loving pet in need of a good home.
You may decide to start letting your kitten go outdoors. If this is the case, you're unlikely to have to worry about her getting enough exercise. She'll instinctively roam, hunt, climb and explore, giving herself quite a workout in the process.
